Making Our Voices Heard for People with Disabilities
At TSE, we believe that creating meaningful lives and strong communities goes beyond the services we provide every day. It also means being involved in the conversations and decisions that shape the future of disability services.
Each year, TSE participates in Disability Services Day at the Minnesota State Capitol, joining people with disabilities, families, direct support professionals (DSPs), service providers, and community organizations from across Minnesota.
Why We Go
Disability Services Day gives us an opportunity to connect with legislators, learn more about the issues affecting our community, and share what we see every day through our work at TSE.
Most importantly, we are there to represent the people we support.
Legislation and public policy can have a direct impact on a person’s ability to live independently, find meaningful employment, participate in their community, and receive the support they need. Decisions made at the State Capitol can also directly affect the professionals who provide that support every day.
That is why TSE believes our voice belongs at the table.
People Are at the Center of the Conversation
TSE’s involvement in legislative advocacy is not about politics. It is about people.
We want policymakers to understand the real-life impact that decisions about disability services can have on individuals and their families. We also want to recognize the essential role of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) and the dedicated staff who support people in reaching their goals and living the lives they choose.
When we share our experiences and perspectives, we help bring the people behind the policies into the conversation.
