Community employment is the most frequently requested service from TSE. Currently, 67% of the individuals served by TSE are utilizing this service. TSE has successfully placed between 85-89% of the people. Based upon the employment goals of an individual, one of two job placement models is used. For those who are capable of working competitively or independently, individual placements are sought. In this model, TSE provides the initial training and support and then systematically fades as the employer assumes the supervision and support of the person. TSE may provide follow-along services, which includes regular contacts to insure the worker's and supervisor's needs continue to be met. For those individuals requiring greater support and supervision, every effort will be made to identify the natural supports at the worksite to provide the person with the greatest level of independence. If an enclave or group placement is desired, TSE will identify up to four workers with similar work interest. The supervision and support of the TSE staff may be provided indefinitely in this situation. Resources from the Minnesota Rehabilitation Services (RS) may be used in either model to facilitate and support the initial training of the workers. COMMUNITY VOCATIONAL ASSESSMENTS TSE has a contract with Rehab. Services for community-based vocational assessments. Individuals will have the opportunity to work up to 3 hours/day for 1-2 weeks, at a CVA site which meets an identified interest. RS funds will pay for 1:1 staffing as well as wages for the person being assessed. We have entered into agreements with eight area businesses to provide the setting in which to complete the assessment:
Other locations are being developed to provide assessment opportunities in other areas of employment interest. To be eligible, a person must have Rehab. Services established, have an expressed interest in obtaining community-based employment, have a need to substantiate skills and interest in an employment area of choice.
