Now the election is complete, we’ve eaten up all the turkey and counted our blessings with family and friends, it is time to get back to the hard work. We are asking parents, guardians, friends of the people we serve, as well as our participants themselves, to write a letter to the editor of your favorite newspaper.
MOHR, a provider group here in Minnesota, has some great sample letters on their website in Microsoft Word format. You can find them near the bottom of the “Advocacy” page, along with directions to an app that helps you to tell your story! There are areas in the letters to fill in with your organizations’ name.
With the shift in political power this year in the Minnesota capitol, we will all need to flex our advocacy muscles to help ensure a bright, and well funded, future for TSE and other programs that serve ALL people of our community.
Please remember that individual news outlets may have guidelines on letter length. Also, not that it is important for letter writers to include a name, address, phone number and email (if possible) with all letters to news outlets and to our elected officials.
